Be sure and pick up your seasonal guide to the Amana Colonies from the Crest Country Inn Lobby. The newspaper is entitled Willkommen: Your free guide to the Seven Amana Colonies, published each season. You'll find a map of the Amanas, a directory of shops, restaurants, hotels, special events - features of things going on at the local shops. Be sure to savor a 'family style' meal at one of the restaurants and visit their furniture shop for Amana made wood heirloom pieces. 
 
Heading east on Interstate 80, we are 20 minutes from Iowa city (Home of the University of Iowa Hawkeyes), and heading west we are on Interstate 80 we are 90 minutes from Des Moines, Iowa.

PELLA, IOWA

Pella, "City of Refuge", was settled by Dutch emigrants in 1847. The historic downtown area resembles a village in the Netherlands with historic storefronts and numerous tulip gardens. The Pella Tulip Festival is celebrated for three days each year in early May, featuring wooden shoe dances, traditional Dutch foods, musical entertainment and parades; all with brilliant, beautiful colorful tulips on display. A miniature Dutch village displays Wyatt Earp's boyhood home and other buildings that were part of early Pella.

University of Iowa

The University of Iowa is a public research university in Iowa City, Iowa. Founded in 1847, it is the oldest and the second largest university in the state.

Herbert Hoover Museum

On November 6, 1928 Herbert Hoover was elected the 31st president of the United States. He was inaugurated on March 4, 1929. President Herbert Hoover and Lou Henry Hoover returned to private life March 4, 1933 where they both remained very active.
